The Chama Valley Humane Society was founded in 1998. Our mission is to provide no-kill solutions to reduce the population of homeless cats and dogs by sponsoring a spay and neuter program for companion pets and feral cats, working with regional shelters and foster homes to rehabilitate and rehome animals, and educating those in the community we serve about responsible pet ownership. We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization supported entirely through private donations, memberships, fundraising, and grants. We serve a 600 square mile area of northern Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. We do not have a shelter--all rescued animals are fostered locally until they can be adopted or transferred to other, preferably no- or low-kill shelters. The Chama Valley Humane Society is an all volunteer organization. Our Board of Directors for 2009-2010 consists of the following individuals:

We love to hear from you and appreciate your constructive feedback and suggestions. Please keep in mind, however, that we all have other jobs and may not be able to respond immediately to phone calls or requests. Also, because of our limited resources and capacity to foster and place animals, we may not be able to take in animals that are being relinquished by owners. The Española Valley Humane Society operates an open door shelter in Española, New Mexico. The Aztec Animal Shelter is an open door shelter in Aztec, New Mexico. Other animal rescue organizations in New Mexico can be found through the Petroglyphs web site.
